That even though these are both dual solid axle high capacity I6 engined off road wagons...they are not the same.

Its still crazy to me that they stuffed an iron block and head OHC 4.0 I6 into something the size of the renegade. I mean, only 500 cc’s (plus 22hp/50lbs-ft) difference between these engines!

I’ m not so much amazed the cruiser is so big as I’ m still in awe at how small the XJ was...with such an huge engine.

For comparison, Largest stock tire size for the XJ and the stock size for my cruiser.

One of them is a capable off-roader known for longevity.

With the other, when all’s quiet at night in the campground, you can hear the frame rot away.

I loved mine. You’re right, it is a surprising amount of power and torque for such a small vehicle.

The 4.0 was pushrod, not OHC whi ch t akes a few inches off the height of the engine.
